Aero-Engine Research and Demonstration Programmes under CleanSky

Clean Sky is Europe’s largest Research programme in Aeronautics. It was started in 2008 as Clean Sky 1 till 2017. It was decided in 2014 to continue as Clean Sky 2 till 2024. What about a Clean Sky 3 is a logical question. The purpose is to take Technology to full-scale Demonstrator in the Design Studies, the Rig Testing and Modelling for the Engine/System Demonstrators, the Airframe and flying Demonstrators. Use is made of advanced Aerodynamics, advanced Materials and Structures, Propulsion, on board energy and trajectory Management taking into account the environmental Objectives such as noise, NOX and CO2. The Engine has been selected for this presentation to illustrate this large European effort.

“Europe may not have a single NASA like organization to act
as a focal point for Aeronautics Research but it does have Clean Sky.”
