PID process control: basic + advanced

Well-designed and properly tuned process control is essential for every process plant. The PLC and DCS have many powerful options that remain underutilized. In this course we show you how to tune PID controllers and build powerful control strategies in the PLC or DCS. During the course we illustrate this with various practical control problems from the industry that are simulated by the computer simulation software packages SIMCET and PITOPS.

Target Audience

This course targets engineers and professional bachelors. No knowledge of Laplace or Z-transformation or other advanced mathematics is required, but the course requires a decent level of abstract and analytical thinking from the second module onwards.
No prior knowledge of control technology is required and also no experience. The first module is certainly also interesting for PLC / DCS / instrument technicians and operators and managers, while the following modules focus more on either instrument engineers and (advanced) control engineers who want to increase their knowledge, or people who want to specialize in ( advanced) control technology.

Programm
Well-designed and properly tuned process control is essential for every process plant. The PLC and DCS have many powerful options that remain underutilized. In this course we show you how to tune PID controllers and build powerful control strategies in the PLC or DCS. During the course we illustrate this with various practical control problems from the industry that are simulated the computer simulation software packages SIMCET and PITOPS. The students also get this software installed on their laptop with a temporary license for the duration of the course, so that they can continue to practice the subject matter between sessions. The course starts in module 1 with the basic concepts of PID control and explains from module 2 onwards the more advanced control concepts.

Objective: at the end of the course, participants will be able to study a process and its P & IDs and talk to the right people in the factory or control room and then design powerful controllers for the PLC / DCS. Participants will be trained in PID tuning and also in the design and adjustment of advanced “regulatory” control schemes, and this for all types of controllers / PLC / DCS. In this way they will be able to stabilize the production process and bring it to its limits in terms of production volume and quality.
